First the immigrants in Quarto demanded wi-fi, substantial pocket money and new menu. Then that of Cornigliano, young males had demanded more spacious and comfortable quarters, rather than bunk beds. Now a third uprising in another immigrant center of Genoa.
Yesterday the police did not intervene because they had not been called by the leaders of Via Serra structure, where asylum seekers…AKA… illegal immigrants, mainly from Senegal, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, had put forward new demands.
The thirty-two guests of the College of St. John the Baptist demonstrated because they want:
1. A new menu, because the food is not to their liking and they wanted some typical Islamic plate.
2. More tickets for the Amt bus because they were only granted twice a week.
3. Increase in Phone cards because the 5 € per month would not be enough to chat with friends and relatives.
Genoa City Council has also given the opportunity to visit the museums for free, but to them it is not enough, or they do not care.
For every immigrant, the Italian state disburses 35 euro per day, which are collected by the various volunteer centers. However, according to data provided by the Liguria Region, of these immigrants only between 10 and 25 percent ever get refugee status. In addition to room and board, there is also the pocket money of EUR 2 and a half, but according immigrants this is not enough.
Moreover, it appears that not one of the young pretentious and angry males has ever offered to voluntarily do community service, as a sign of gratitude to the city of Genoa.
