The number of the victims in Pakistan from Easter Day rises. The provisional budget of dead has risen to 72, while there are more than 300 wounded.
A suicide bomber who blew himself up in a Lahore park, crowded with people of the Christian religion to celebrate the Easter holiday. The provincial government has announced three days of official mourning with flags at half mast and schools closed in the city, announced Education Minister Rana Mashood.
Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Jamat-ul-Ahrar, a group of Pakistani Taliban, who said “the aim was to strike the Christian minority.”
The blast occurred near an entrance of the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park located in the Iqbal Town, a popular Sunday meeting and especially busy today on the occasion of Easter. The suicide bomber blew himself up near the swings in the crowd.
The government in Islamabad has deployed some army units to facilitate rescue operations. Police confirmed the presence of a suicide bomber and also the use of the explosive metal balls to increase the lethal effect. At the time of the massacre there was a large crowd in the park to the point that the access roads were clogged with traffic.
It was found that there was no service order to protect the many entrances to the Public Park which is one of the largest in Lahore.
