In 2015, the incidence of absolute poverty in Italy was 6.1% in terms of residing households and 7.6% in terms of individuals. According to the latest Istatreport, this is the highest incidence since 2005. We are talking about a total of more than 1.5 million and almost 4.6 million people. Among them, 2 million 277 thousand are women (7.3% incidence), 1 million 131 thousand children (10.9%), 1 million 13 thousand those are aged between 18 and 34: 9.9%, a rate which has more than tripled compared to 3.1% in 2005. The incidence of absolute poverty among the elderly is equal to 4.1% (538,000 individuals). This rate has remained stable over the last decade. To be noted that, at regional level, the Southern Regions registered the highest values (9.1% of households, 10% of people). While in the Center we find the lowest ones (4.2% of households; 5.6% of people).
