” Gedenke, dass Du bist ein Deutscher. Halte dein Blut rein! “, Or” Remember that you are a German. Keep your blood pure! “. In the motto that distinguishes it, it emerges the strong ideological characterization – eminently in the sense of identity – of the Thule-Gesellschaft , based in Monaco of Bavaria August 18, 1918, exactly 98 years ago.
Beyond the manipulations it has undergone, the phenomenon ” Thule ” is a cardinal point of the whole ideological evolution and the German Historical of the following decades.
Born on the eve of the surrender of Germany in the Great War, the Thule Society arises, since its inception, as a complex organization and transversal issues both in its composition and in its purpose.
First, the Thule Society is a product of its time, and was born as a reaction – policy and before that the spiritual – to the military collapse of Germany and the end of the Second Reich. A reaction, first of all, with respect to the rising thrust of the socialist-communist revolution that was taking place in those months and, most acutely, in the Bavarian capital.
It is restrictive and wrong, however, to qualify the Thule as a simple political organization of the conservative right. The intent of, in fact, is more far-reaching and can be summarized in two words: rediscovery and creation .
First, Thule – whose name recalls, not surprisingly, the northern island legends indicate that the ancestral homeland of the Aryan peoples – set out to discover and disclose the ancestral heritage of the German nation,- through studies and publications – the roots deepest of the German nation (myths, traditions, language use, laws, etc.); in a “esoteric”, recalling the super-human also principles which, over the centuries, had determined the luck of the German people.
Second, Thule – and this is perhaps the most surprising side of this organization – intended to actualize the roots of the German people, in order that they provide to the nation’s spiritual and cultural weapons of a new renaissance. This, again, either through a popular work, both through the evocation of deeper forces, they could adiuvare the German people, gathered in a community of blood and spirit, in the reconquest of a place of prominence among the world nations .
Thule, in the decades since its founding, has played a role of primary importance in determining the collapse of the Weimar Republic and prepare the advent of the Nazi regime. This is a sign that they had achieved programmatic objectives described above.
First of all, under the ideological profile, Thule has provided to the nascent National Socialist Party the major leaders and the most effective symbols: Adolf Hitler and Rudolf Hess – as known – belonged to Thule, as well as the swastika, solar symbol, was widely used by the same Society.
Conceptually, in addition, all the major themes of the National Socialist policy had already been outlined by Thule: the end of monetary seigniorage to the revision of the Treaty of Versailles, from anti-Semitism to a marked tendency to the preservation of the racial characteristics of the German people.
Thule, then, was a seed capable of generating deep roots, leveraging all the more profound elements in the consciousness of a nation. And indeed, a few hundred members have directed for many years – until the final result – millions of Germans.
What remains, net of conflicting judgments that – inevitably – hit the subject, is an increasingly valuable lesson for all traditional communities: the quality is not dependent on the amount, and to revive the roots of a people do not need cheering masses, but few men who know how to tap into the deepest roots of the race.
