The wave of landings that, in recent days, has affected the coast of Sicily, continues. On Monday, more than 2,300 immigrants landed in Sicily. The island, by itself, cannot not take it anymore. New products have exacerbated exponentially in an already very difficult situation. For many Sicilian municipalities, the complex scenario of recent weeks is taking on the character of a real social emergency, shamefully ignored by politicians, local and national institutions.
And ‘an uninterrupted exodus, an emergency that has become routine. The numbers on illegal immigration in Italy, particularly from the Maghreb countries, by land or – better – recoveries bagnarole overflowing, show a disturbing picture. According to data of the Interior Ministry, in 12 months (August 1, 2015, July 31, 2016), there have landed on our shores 154,047 people, 67% of which are in Sicily, 20% in Calabria, 7% in Puglia, 5 % in Sardinia and 1% in Campania.
It is not only Sicily having to deal with the many difficulties that arose in management, social and health. The regions that are home to the largest number of centers and temporary shelters are Lombardy in the lead, followed by Sicily, Campania, Veneto and Lazio. Overall, Italy has provided care to nearly 140 thousand people.
But given the most emblematic figure, which certainly has aroused most noise, it is related to more than 105 thousand asylum applications submitted to the Committees in charge: of these, were examined 94 thousand, and 60 thousand have failed. Refugee status was granted to only 4,400 applicants.
Thousands of men, women and children to which the Italian State has to ensure accommodation and meals for the entire period of examination of the asylum request, allocating huge sums of public money stolen from services and more to the benefit of shameful speculation are not true refugees.
So, while on one hand there are the disbursed funds from Europe and Italy to cope with the waves of landings, on the other we find a dense array of ambiguous characters waiting to cash checks with six zeros, penetrating the lucrative “deal BUSINESS “.
In recent years, we have been helpless witnesses of yet another Italian shame. Support for this “army of ghosts” was handled in complete chaos, triggering multiple cases of frauds and scams. In this regard, we feel a duty to dispel a myth: the huge sums made available by the State to manage tens of thousands of people landed on our territory, little or nothing has ended up in the hands of immigrants. This rain of millions has fueled an obscure market, enriching speculators of all sorts, hoteliers unscrupulous criminals cooperatives. Once again, emergency has become the magic word useful to bypass rules and controls. Local authorities have absconded, everything was done in total silence of those who should have supervised. A perverse system, which resulted in a kind of race between those who obtained the “management” of the largest refugee population. And so it is today the welcome made in Italy, marked by rivers of money, non-existent controls, and waste.
It was a very rich business, it was understood in the dialogue intercepted from Salvatore Buzzi, one of the main protagonists of the investigations of “Mafia capital”: “Do you have any idea how much we gain from immigrants? Drug trafficking makes less. “ For each refugee, in fact, the State pays out about 40 Euros a day, without making any substantive monitoring on the actual condition of the facilities.
But, the deal BUSINESS millionaire has also meant another. The degradation of the apartment blocks where they have found shelter hundreds of nameless faces produced, in our cities, a strong situation of deprivation combined with a general discontent. All this – alas – has inevitably led to violence, as happened in some remote areas of the capital. The prevailing economic crisis, then, brought up many tensions remained under the radar for years.
Yet, despite social and malfeasance overt tensions, every day, at every institutional level, floods of experts, commissioners for emergencies, prefects, pseudo-volunteers, as well as teams of politicians of all ranks and levels, color and political orientation, devise, in cliques randomly divided, remedies and stratagems “useful” to deal with the impasse, European and national caused by the immigration issue; acting deliberately “pro domo”, most often at the expense, if not to the detriment, of the whole community.
Despite the slogans and declarations bombastic served up by an ever more detached from political reality and the problems of that people which, however, calls for continuing to legitimize itself, there are those who followed with impunity to protect their interests.
In front of the organic collapse of public structures of welcome, now chronic insufficiency of economic resources and a growing discontent among many Italian citizens, the state tries, arrogantly, to circumvent the local institutions, delegating the issue to individuals without scruples . We are in the presence of a too complex issue to be leaning against individual communities, often without an economic and logistical means, unable to manage autonomously tasks of this magnitude, if not at the expense of social order and of peaceful civil coexistence.
Encouraging then, more or less explicitly, business establishments around the theme of immigration, on the skin of the Italians and immigrants, we consider the abject practice, ethically unacceptable. Once again, the empty words of “solidarity” run parallel to the interests of a few, with the approval of our local left, the powerful and the exploiters service.
