“Friday, February 10, 2017 at 6:00 PM militants of Forza Nuova Civitavecchia led by manager Mirko Giannino, on the occasion of the” Day of Remembrance “established by Law No 30 March. 92 of 2004, organized a commemoration in front of the monument dedicated to the Martyrs of Foibe and Exodus of Istria and the Julian – Dalmatian.
Recall that this anniversary has been established, after decades of neglect and ostracism, to remember and commemorate the more than 300,000 Italians in Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia victims of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the communist troops under the command of Marshal Tito and with the deplorable complicity and collaboration of the Italian communist partisans. Thousands of men, women and children were persecuted, tortured and killed, often thrown still while dying in karst caves called sinkholes, located in Trieste and the Italian eastern border between Friuli Venezia Giulia and today’s Slovenia.
The most notorious is the Cave of Basovizza, in the Municipality of Trieste, declared a national monument in memory of the tragedy. Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia and the islands of Kvarner, lands always Italian, were annexed to the communist Yugoslavia and Trieste was divided into two zones (A and B under the Italian Slavic control) following the 1947 peace treaty, and later, the infamous London Memorandum of 1954 and, most recently, the Treaty of Osimo of 1975 which made the definitive eastern border between Italy and the former Yugoslavia. Thousands of Italians who survived the Slavic persecution were forced into Exodus, leaving everything they had to take refuge with their relatives in Italy, often greeted with suspicion and hatred by Italian communists who considered them fascists only because they fled from the supposed paradise of socialism. Which in fact, as history has finally established, was the most ferocious and inhuman dictatorships.
Unlike other victims of hatred and persecution of the Second World War the Martyrs Foibe, their families had no financial compensation or honors, but for decades have been living as refugees in their homeland. Victims, the pages of which have been deleted from the history books in Italian schools .For honor in our city we commemorate the martyrs of Foibe and thousands of exiles from Istria and julian – Dalmatian victims of ‘Communist hatred. ”
