Up to 47 confirmed cases of Chikungunya, twenty more than yesterday’s total. Almost all nineteen are residents or have stayed in the municipality of Anzio, while one is in the province of Latina.
It is an infection that is transmitted by the puncture of some species of mosquito and gives similar symptoms to influenza, in some cases with severe joint pains and other complications. Extremely rare in Europe, the numbers of Chikungunya sufferers are leavened within a week, worrying about Rome and the whole region. And the figure could continue to rise.
The mosquito carries the virus. It’s elementary. Chikungunya is endemic here:
Everyone can draw on their own conclusions.
Ecdc (European Center for Disease Prevention and Control) asks to point out travelers in Italy: “Since environmental conditions in the area should remain similar in the coming weeks – says a report – the probability of further broadcasts in Lazio is high. ” And again: “The fact that the first transmission event is estimated to have occurred around the middle of July or earlier, that cases have been reported in two separate areas, and that several additional cases are under monitoring, suggests that local transmission is a means effective for spreading the disease. ” Therefore, according to Ecdc, “Travelers returning from areas where Chikungunya is active should consult a doctor if they have disease-compatible symptoms in the first two weeks after their return.” And states of the European Union “should temporarily exclude from donations of blood” who visited the areas affected by the virus.

More intelligent thinking would block the inputs from the areas where the virus originated. But protecting European populations from African-based viruses is, as you know, racism.
Meanwhile cases exported from Lazio are reported in different areas of Italy. While other cases of Chiukungunya were detected in Mantua, Carpi and the Marche.
