In a short documentary, Italian journalists show how easy it is to obtain a Nigerian identity at the Nigerian embassy in Italy.
Because there’s no official verification procedure, people can register with fake names and can make their first steps towards receiving an official Italian residence permit.
In the documentary the journalists show how they create three non-existing identities:
“We manipulate the photograph with a common registry program. We create two men and a woman. Let’s see… an Italian fiscal code and [unintelligible]. In the first case, we follow the ordinary procedure. Wait in line at the window. Payment of the €50 requested. And the wait, so much waiting. But at the end of the day, here is the first document.”
